Meeting in The Air! This is a faster paced, fun, and lively old time gospel tune. We will discuss and try various techniques and variations to use with this one, and maybe we'll even have the "Just Jammin" crew stop in toward the end to liven it up even more as we hammer it out!

While I'm certainly not looking for any snow - this is a fun piece for the Christmas season, which includes a lively intro. and ending. The HD is the perfect instrument for Christmas music, so come and add "Let it Snow" to your list.

Finding the I,IV, V chords in different keys and progressing to more circle of fifth chords. Everyone can participate in playing the tunes chosen for the workshop.

Learn Valse Petite Dejeuner (The Little Breakfast Waltz). Tune will include embellishments.

When moving from one chord to another, a two- or three-note bass run helps make a smooth transition. Furthermore, if you are jamming with people who aren't familiar with the chord progression to a song, a well-chosen bass run can give them advance warning of the next chord and help them keep up with you.

Two-Hour Session - This will be a structured jam session where tunes will be played slowly (sometimes v-e-r-y slowly), so that beginning players and those learning the tune for the first time can play along. Several of the participants will have the chance to select a tune to play (we'll start with those sitting up front), but the tunes selected must be familiar to at least one of the leaders and to a reasonable number of participants. Players of all instruments and all levels are welcome and are encouraged to sit "up close" so that we can hear each other. This is a great way to get started playing in jam sessions.

Two-Hour Session - The first hour being focused on new and beginning players and the second hour aimed at more advanced beginners and intermediate players. Those just starting should arrive early for instruction in tuning, holding the pick, chords, and other basics. Simple tunes will be taught at the end of the 1st hour, with more complex principles and tunes taught during the 2nd hour.

We will experiment with using a capo or changing a string to go into different keys. With each new tuning we will learn a song.

Everyone will like this song. We will learn the melody, harmony, and words.

Learn some lovely waltzes and how to incorporate fingerpicking into them.

This class will get you started on the technique of fingerpicking.

Learn just this one simple "outhouse" chord pattern and you can play any chord in any song! This chord pattern can be used in any timing, including waltzes and fiddle tunes. We'll learn this pattern and use it to play back up for John Stinson's #2.

We will learn this popular tune and then discuss how to embellish it by using chord tones, arpeggios, drones, and a cool chromatic run.

How to "play together nicely" and complement each other instead of everyone just doing the same thing. Will explore ideas, taking "breaks", backing up lead instruments, creative intros and endings. Will choose a simple song or tune and arrange it in class. Whether you are a "duo" or more, this class will make your arrangements sound much more interesting.

Even if you've never played a harmonica before, you'll be playing a tune by the end of the session. Bring a "C" harmonica (limited number available for purchase at class).

Participants will learn the basic chords and right hand techniques. Using up to three roll patterns, we will learn a popular tune or two. A limited number of banjos will be provided, or bring your own 5-string banjo.

Doo Whop songs will be featured as you learn-or practice chord progessions which appear in numerous songs. How to transpose will also be taught as the keys used in this workshop may not be the right keys for you.

Add a tune to your play list that sounds harder to play than it is. Dulcimers need to have the key of A major (4-4 scale on treble bridge).

Ever feel like that long, floating, ethereal sustain “gets in the way” of the tune? It doesn't have to! Approach sustain with new ears as a vital part of the hammered dulcimer, as we sing and play “Amazing Grace” in D major. (Notation can be found on my web site.)

Find out how to tune your autoharp(s) in five minutes! (The same procedure applies to hammered dulcimers, although tuning these might take 10 minutes!) Note: A few out-of-tune instruments are needed for--guess what!) BYO chair, plus your instrument and necessary accessories.

Betty Groulx will be joining me in teaching a lively melody from the early 1960's first recorded by the String-a-Longs. It eventually became one of Chet Atkins greatest guitar instrumentals. This is Betty's arrangement with chord and drone notes.

We'll learn what fake books are all about and how to make them work for us. We'll play from various formats and explore new possibilities. This workshop is helpful for players at various levels of skill.

Scottish music from J. Scott Skinner. We'll learn Cradle Song, a beautiful, user-friendly lullaby; Princess Royal, slightly more difficult minor tune.

The Bransle, pronounced "Brawl," was arguably the most popular Renaissance era dance. We'll learn "The Rat Bransle" and if time "The Horse Bransle" and also take a brief look at a Bransle that has made it into current holiday music. The Rockford Ramblers is a jamming group that specializes in tunes that are rhythmically and melodically more difficult. While challenging to learn, these tunes are the most fun to play. You will be introduced to a selection of their tunes and given information on how to find more of them.

Techniques taught will include the basic right hand clawhammer stroke needed for double thumb and drop thumb and left hand fingering for the key of D using double D tuning. Whether you are starting "from scratch" or you are looking to learn how to do double thumb and/or drop thumb you are in the right place. During this class we will learn to play a Beatles standard. There will be easy to read sheet music with words for those who want to sing. New players will love picking out a tune they already know in their head. More experienced players can play chords or add harmony notes to the melody.

"The Butterfly" is a lovely slip jig from Ireland. It is fun to play on just about any instrument. We will play it in Em. Both standard notation and chords are indicated in the music sheet.

Come play this slow moving waltz with us. New players will be able to play the melody and more experienced players will be able to add some harmony notes in this great tune.

Getting started with the basic "how to find your way areound the board"

This workshop will focus on the basic hammer patterns of a three chord tune. Students will use these chord patterns to play through some basic tunes recognizing chord changes. Part two of a two part workshop. Part one highly recommended.

In this workshop you will play the chords used in minor key tunes. You will also use this workshop to recognize when chords change in a tune. This is the first part of a two part workshop.

Frustrated that you've new at the dulcimer but you want to play in the big jam sessions? No problem! After this workshop you'll be able to participate playing almost any tune in any key. Students will learn to play along with other melody instruments using the pentatonic scale. You'll also be able to use that scale in two octaves. Join us and JAM!

Learn this traditional Christmas carol fully embellished with chord harmonies. Class will move slowly, step-by-step, through a specially arranged song sheet for standard or Webster tuning and for those who do and do not read music. Relaxing and having fun will be stressed.

May take either class. Recommend both. Hour 1 covers major/minor key names, notes in keys, chords in keys, notes in chords. Hour 2 covers grace notes, harmony notes, runs, walking chords, rolls, trills, rhythmic variations and uses them in a song sheet. Instructor's chording/embellishment booklets for sale after class. Classes move slowly, are for music and non-music readers with standard or Webster-tuned instruments and stress relaxing and having fun.

Hawai'i is the only state which has two official languages. You will learn to pronounce words in Hawaiian and some hapa haole songs and possibly a song entirely in Hawaiian. This is a voice class, but appropriate accompanying instruments are ukulele, guitar, Hawaiian steel guitar, and a bass or two would be nice. Aloha shirts and lei will be appreciated. Now a FunFest tradition! Dig that uke out of the back of the closet and bring it to the jam. Jam participants choose the songs that we will play. All skill levels and all ukes are invited. We always have a blast.

You paid for all those frets, let's learn to use them. You should be fairly comfortable playing first position chords. You will learn the "why" and "how" of closed position chords and where you can use them in place of the chords that you already know. Also, you will learn to play in "non-ukulele" keys. Never fear Eb again!

It became a sensational hit in 1942, as it reflected the feelings of all the Allies towards the British people in their brave fight against Hitler. Solid chord knowledge is very helpful.

Liberty is a great jam tune. Learn the melody and some fun variations that can be applied to Golden Slippers and Soldier's Joy.
